Established in 2001, Juratė has been started willing to share the Lithuanian tradition of linen craftsmanship. Juratė’s collection offers linen products of the highest quality, completely hand-woven with a high-end care for details. The atelier is a quartet of artisans working in Vilnius on traditional wooden looms. They adapt the Baltic century old heritage to create modern, simple and luxurious pieces, using calm Northern seaside colours.
The brand name is a woman first name and is related to a Lithuanian legend: jura means sea and Juratė was the Goddess of the Baltic Sea and the Queen of the Mermaids, living in an amber castle under the waves. She felt in love with a with a brave fisherman Kastytis. When her father, the God of Thunder found out that the immortal goddess had fallen in love with a fisherman, with lightning bolts he killed Kastytis and shattered Jūratė's undersea palace. Even today, when winds whip up raging storms in the Baltic Sea, one can hear Jūratė mourning for her beloved Kastytis and, afterwards, one can still find pieces of amber: larger ones – the remains of Jūratė's amber palace, and tiny ones – the frozen tears of the Goddess - washed out on the sandy shores.
In the gallery we present Juratė’s exceptional linen plaids, their unique bathmats and placemats.
