This wall plaque has been created by Noomi Backhausen in the 1970’s while she was working for the Søholm atelier in Bornholm Denmark.

This chamotte stoneware piece figures a stylized parrot in earthy tones, the surface shows relief. It is signed Noomi underneath and has the atelier stamp on the back Søholm Stentøj Bornholm with the number 4003.

Noomi Backhausen (1938-2011) started as an apprentice painter at Søholm Keramik immediately after finishing her studies. She attended the ceramics department of the School of Arts and Crafts (Kunsthåndværkerskolen) from 1959 to 1962 and ran her own studio from 1962 to 1964. From 1966 she was rehired by Søholm Keramik, where she worked until 1990. She continued to work in her own Studio in Bornholm.
